Dr. Ahed Alkhatib has finished his PhD from Cambell State University in 2011. I am currently working as a clinical researcher at faculty of medicine, Jordan University of Science and technology. WSEM was the last student of Sir Ludwig Guttmann. He trained in Spinal Injuries and its allied surgical specialities in the Oxford Group of hospitals, Guys Hospital, Stoke Mandeville hospital and the USA between 1971 & 1983. He was appointed Consultant Surgeon in Spinal Injuries and Director of the Midland Centre for Spinal Injuries (MCSI) at the RJAH 1983. He personally treated and provided ongoing total care from injury to about 10,000 patients with and without Spinal Cord damage. Between 1983 & 2000 he raised £ 6 million from Charity to rebuild and equip the MCSI in order to ensure a safe and fit for purpose environment for patients. In collaboration with the scientists of the Institute to carry out research on regeneration of the injured spinal cord. He published 146 manuscripts, lectured worldwide, is independent Examiner of PhD students since 1997 and is independent assessor of PhD thesis since 1997. WSEM has contributed to the National Health Service Framework and to the National Institute of Excellence (NICE). He is Past President International Spinal Cord Society and Past Chairman British Association of Spinal Cord Injury Specialists. He advised and prepared a report on Spinal Injuries WHO, and prepared a report on Spinal Injuries and won many National and International awards. WEM and the service of the MCSI are acknowledged nationally and internationally for their excellence and contribution to knowledge, teaching, training and research in the field of Spinal Injuries and received many awards. They have been quoted the in House of Lords Parliamentary Debates as examples of good practice(Hansard) 8th April 2003, vol 647, no.79, p204; 9th March 2006 vol 679, no 117, p88 and 28th February 2009. Edward Taub is a University Professor in the Department of Psychology and is the director of the CI Therapy Research Group and Taub Training Clinic. He received his PhD in psychology from New York University in 1970 under the supervision of Dr. Edgar E. Coons. Dr. Taub is a behavioral neuroscientist who developed a family of techniques — Constraint-Induced Movement therapy (or CI therapy) — that have been shown to be effective in improving the rehabilitation of movement after stroke, traumatic brain injury, cerebral palsy in young children, multiple sclerosis, and other neurological injuries. He also has developed a form that is efficacious in the treatment of post-stroke aphasia. He is also interested in the study of the nature of the plastic brain reorganization induced by CI therapy and the ways it can be harnessed to produce new treatments in neurorehabilitation. Research with pediatric patients with cerebral palsy and adults with MS is ongoing. Pilot work has begun using a progression of training techniques to enable motor complete tetraplegic patients paralyzed from the neck down to operate their wheelchair by hand movements applied to an armrest-based toggle switch and to feed themselves by raising hand to mouth. Over 600 papers have been published on the effects of CI therapy in its various forms, and the treatment was the subject of the first multi-center randomized clinical trial for upper extremity stroke rehabilitation funded by NIH. Dr. Taub is the recipient of nine national society awards for his research, among them: the 2004 Distinguished Scientific Award for the Application of Psychology of the American Psychological Association and the William James Award of the American Psychological Society (1997). His body of CI therapy research was named by the Society of Neuroscience as one of the top 10 Translational Neuroscience Accomplishments of the 20th century (2003) and one of the 10 “most exciting lines of neuroscience” being carried out (2005). Erkan Kaptanoğlu graduated from Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine in 1990. He gained his expertise whilst completing his residency in Neurosurgery at Ankara Numune Hospital in 1997. Erkan Kaptanoğlu worked with Prof. Dr. Charles Tatoras a research fellow at the University of Toronto for a period of one year from 1998-1999 on "spinal cord injury and regeneration". Erkan Kaptanoğlu won many awards on spinal cord injury research. Erkan Kaptanoğlu was elected to be the Head of the Committee of Young Neurosurgeons of Turkish Neurosurgery Association between 2002 - 2003. He was elected to the Board of Turkish Neurosurgery Spine and Peripheral Nerve Surgery Group between 2003 - 2009. He worked as an assistant editor of the Turkish Journal of Neurosurgery in 2001 - 2006. He completed the Doctorate Program in Advanced Neurological Sciences in Hacettepe University Institute of Health Sciences in 2005. He was promoted as Doctor of Science by completing a doctorate (PhD). He worked in the Department of Neurosurgery in Ankara Numune Hospital until 2010. Currently,Erkan Kaptanoğlu is serving as Head of the Department of Neurosurgery at the School of Medicine, Near East University in North Cyprus, since 2010.

He received neurosurgical training under the guide of Professor Gianfranco Rossi at the Institute of Neurosurgery of the Catholic University of Rome, where he has been active as Resident (1972-1976), Assistant Professor (until 1987), Associate Professor and Chairman of the Service and Section of Neurotraumatology (until 2002). Since 2002, Professor of Neurosurgery and Chairman of the Neurosurgical Department and School at the Polytechnic University of Marche in Ancona. Fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation at the Department of Stereotactic Surgery, Freiburg (Germany, April 1978 - March 1979), under the guide of Professor Fritz Mundinger.

Vasiliki E. Kalodimou is Director of the Flow Cytometry-Research and Regenerative Medicine Department at IASO Maternity-Pediatric and Research Hospital in Athens, Greece. Before her current appointment, Kalodimou served as a haematology associate at General University Hospital of Heraklion, Crete, and as an instructor at both the General University Hospital of Heraklion and the Ipokratios Medical- Technical Institute of Athens. Kalodimou received her bachelor’s degree in Human Physiology and her master’s degree in Human Molecular Genetics from the Imperial College at the University of Medicine in London, UK. She completed her PhD at the University of Medicine in Athens, Greece, with an emphasis on stem cells and factors affecting their viability and absolute numbers.

Since 2006, Dr. Kalodimou has studied and working with stem cells from placenta, umbilical cord and adipose tissue, in every day practice and their applications in regenerative medicine and Flow Cytometry. Also is working in the area of human genetics & population genetics. In collaboration with the Hellenic Flow Cytometry Society, Kalodimou has developed quality control schemes for stem cell marker enumeration. The goal of this work is to find helpful new applications for flow cytometry, evaluate the risk factors for stem cell infusion, and improve the clarity and accessibility of measurements by flow cytometry. Her work quantifies and ranks all risks of flow cytometry enumeration to prevent and minimize the false-positive results from different cytometer uses. She is also working to establish combinations of monoclonal antibodies for mesenchymal and adipose tissue stem cell enumeration. In addition to collaboration with state universities and pharmaceutical companies on research projects, Kalodimou frequently publishes her findings. The Greek edition of the book was published in 2010 and has been well-received while in 2013 the English edition of the book was published by AABB Press USA. She is a member of two subsections of the AABB Cellular Therapies Section and also an AABB assessor.

Since the year 2000 Dr Balsano has been Chief of the Orthopedic Department of the Hospital of Thiene (Vicenza) Italy, and in 2003 chief of another orthopedic hospital in Schio (Vicenza); up to now he has performed about 2500 spinal surgical operations, including deformities, degenerative conditions, cervical pathologies, traumatology, cervical and lumbar herniated disc. To date, dr.Balsano has presented many papers at the most important international and national meetings on spinal pathologies. He is actually studying the new therapeutic possibilities to heal the vertebral fractures in patients with osteoporosis and he is also studyng the ‘Autologous Growth Factors’ for enhancement the spinal fusion in the deformities, such as scoliosis, kyphosis and spondylolisthesis, expecially in adolescents. Dr.Balsano is also Professor of Spinal pathology at the University of Verona and he is actually on the board of Directors of the G.I.S. (Spine Italian Society). In February 2005 the Orthopedic Department of Thiene and Schio , directed by Dr.Balsano, has been declared ‘Regional Spinal Surgery Department’, becoming the first spinal centre in the Italian North-East area .
