Market Analysis

Growing spinal diseases and spine deterioration are associated with population maturation. Another important factor driving the trend is the shift in lifestyle that is causing a rise in obesity among the population. Increased prevalence of spine injuries is anticipated to contribute to market growth during the speculative period.

According to the National Spinal Cord Injury Statistical Center, around 17,000 new cases of spinal cord injuries occurred annually in the United States in 2016, or about 54 cases per million people. Experiences from the WHO (2013) indicate that each year, spinal cord injuries affect between 250,000 and 500,000 people worldwide. Among the main causes of these wounds are athletic activities, falls, violence, and street accidents. Furthermore, it is anticipated that the development of new and effective breakthroughs in spine care would fuel demand for these devices and inserts.

The most often studied issue, degenerative circle disorders are the primary cause of neck and back pain. According to the American Chiropractic Association, over 31 million Americans suffer from low back pain at some point in their lives. Furthermore, it is estimated that the United States spends USD 50 billion annually on back pain therapy. Hence, in order to support the need for these inserts and devices in the upcoming years, degenerative issues and associated back pain are necessary.

The size of the worldwide market for spinal implants and devices was estimated at USD 11.06 billion in 2015, and during the forecast period, it is projected to expand at a CAGR of 5.8%. Growing treatment rates and prevalence of degenerative spine illnesses, an aging population that is growing quickly, technological breakthroughs in medicine, and a growing need for less invasive procedures are the main drivers of market expansion.

LDR Holding Corporations, Zimmer Biomet Holdings, DePuy Synthes, Medtronic, NuVasive, Inc., Alphatec Spine, Orthofix International N.V., and Globus Medical, Inc. are a few of the industry participants. These major firms concentrate on stepping up R&D efforts to improve spine care interventions.
